Aaarrrggghhh!!!!

Life continues to suck. My everlasting uselessness continues. I can’t be bothered enough to write about all the random little thoughts that pop into my mind throughout the day. Heck, I can’t even be bothered to talk about significant events like the ever-entertaining phone calls to myself and to Z lady. Haha, btw. If you were here, you’d see me smiling.... no scratch that. You’d see me laughing ‘cos I mostly smile when I’m by myself (with exceptions).

Currently in my life:
Weather: gloomy (which would normally get my spirits up); rained a while ago; rather stuffy atm.
Temperature: don’t know, but should be around 30’s.
Room status: bed messy with clothes and unfolded blankie; table semi-messy (my pen-stand spilled and its various contents are now lying around the table); bookshelf and wardrobe ... heck, I’m not even going to go there ... not till next year ... which should be in another 8 days).
Siblings: nothing to say here; I’m the only sibling that’s home right now. ... Oh, evil-twin took my sim and ran off to work with it.
Hygiene: I’m sure you couldn’t care less but the blasted bathroom has been unusable since yesterday. And today, there’s a giant hole on the wall between the bathroom and current family room.... *siiiigh*.... I wonder how long it is till my Brighton flat is ready....
THAT’S IT!!! I’M GOING OVER TO PEACH’S PLACE TO HAVE A SHOWER!!!
Stuck in my head: “Koko ni iru yo”; caught my attention as soon as I entered some stranger’s blog. Somehow very soothing. ... veeery...
Overdue work: too many to mention; but from what I remember for the moment- LMSA agenda; study for tomorrow’s exam; 金for CMS; sanity.
Right. Time to study.

....you think the opposite of red is white
....you pore over the jikokuhyo looking for ways to avoid riding the Shinkansen
....you appear for your first skiing lesson with brand new Rossignol high performance racing skis and an aerodynamic racing suit with color matched goggles. And then snowplow down
....you buy a potato-and-strawberry sandwich for lunch without cringing
....you do "yanki-zuwari" waiting for a bus to come
....you phone an English-speaking gaijin friend and somehow can't bring yourself to get to the point for the first 3 minutes of the conversation
....you stop enjoying telling newcomers to Japan 'all about Japan'
....you think 360 yen to the dollar is a reasonable exchange rate
....you automatically remember all of your important year dates in Showa numbers

....you remember when Yamamoto Linda came on at the very end of the show (NHK's Yume de aimashou) and kept her mouth shut
....when you no longer find anything unusual in the concept of "Vermont curry"
....you think 4 layers of wrapping is reasonable for a simple piece of merchandise
....you don't find anything strange about a city that puts a life sized, red-and-white painted Eiffel tower imitation in its center, as well as a scale model of the Versaille Palace for its Crown Prince

unedited

Since last night my young son has been unwell. When I got back from work this evening I decided to take him to hospital despite my exhaustion. There were many waiting; perhaps we will be delayed by more than an hour. I took my number and sat down in the waiting room. There were many faces, young and old, but all silent.

Some brothers made use of the many booklets available in the waiting room. Some of those waiting had their eyes closed, while others were looking around. Most were bored. Once in a while the long silence was broken by a nurse calling out a number. Happiness appears on the one whose turn it is, and he gets up quickly; then silence returns.
A young man grabbed my attention. He was reading a pocket-sized Qur`an continuously; not raising his head even once. At first I did not think much about him. However, after one hour of waiting my casual glances turned into a deep reflection about his lifestyle and how he utilizes his time. One hour of life wasted! Instead of making benefit of that hour, it was just a boring wait. Then the call for prayer was made. We went to prayer in the hospital's mosque. I tried to pray close to the man who was reading the Qur`an earlier in the waiting room. After the prayer I walked with him. I informed him of how impressed I was of him and how he tries to benefit from his time.

He told me that most of our time is wasted without any benefit. These are days that go from our lives without being conscious of them or regretting their waste. He said that he started carrying the pocket-sized Qur`an around when a friend encouraged him to make full use of his time. He told me that in the time other people waste he gets to read much more of the Qur`an than he gets to read either at home or in the mosque. Moreover, besides the reward of reading the Qur`an, this habit saves him from boredom and stress.

He added that he has now been waiting for one and a half hours. Then he asked, when will you find one and a half hours to read the Qur`an?

I reflected; How much time do we waste? How many moments of our lives pass by, and yet we do not account for how they passed by? Indeed, how many months pass by and we do not read the Qur`an? I came to respect my companion, and I discovered that I am to stand for account and that time is not in my hand; so what am I waiting for? My thoughts were interrupted by the nurse calling out my number; I went to the doctor.

But I want to achieve something now. After I left the hospital I quickly went to the bookshop and bought a pocket-sized Qur`an. I decided to be mindful of how I spend the time.

Below is a letter written by an iraqi girl after the tragic 7 July 2005 London bombings, were a series of coordinated terrorist bomb blasts hit London's public transport system during the morning rush hour.

ALthough it's addressed to the British people, it is a message for the world community, and that includes you!!

Forget for once your nationality, your race, your religion or the lack of it, your political discourse, our differences, and only be conscious of your humanity. Then take a glance at this letter.

Just one glance.....

I amm sending this letter to the British people and in particular to the residents of London. For a period of hours, you have lived through moments of desperate anxiety and horror. In those hours you lost a member of your family or a friend, and we wish to tell you in total honesty that we too grieve when human lives pass away. I cannot tell you how much we hurt when we see desperation and pain on the face of another person. For we have lived through this situation and continue to live through it every day since your country and the United States formed an alliance and laid plans to attack Iraq.

The Prime Minister of your country, Tony Blair, said that those who carried out the explosions did so in the name of Islam. The Secretary of State of the United States, Condaleezza Rice, described the bombings as an act of barbarism. The United Nations Security Council met and unanimously condemned the event.

I would like to ask you, the free British people, to allow me to inquire: in whose name was our country blockaded for 12 years? In whose name were our cities bombed using internationally prohibited weapons? In whose name did the British army kill Iraqis and torture them? Was that in your name? Or in the name of religion? Or humanity? Or freedom? Or democracy?

What do you call the killing of more than two million children? What do you call the pollution of the soil and the water with depleted uranium and other lethal substances?

What do you call what happened in the prisons in Iraq in Abu Ghraib, Camp Bucca and the many other prison camps? What do you call the torture of men, women, and children? What do you call tying bombs to the bodies of prisoners and blowing them apart? What do you call the refinement of methods of torture for use on Iraqi prisoners such as pulling off limbs, gouging out eyes, putting out cigarettes on their skin, and using cigarette lighters to set fire to the hair on their heads? Does the word "barbaric" adequately describe the behavior of your troops in Iraq?

May we ask why the Security Council did not condemn the massacre in al-Amiriyah and what happened in al-Fallujah, Tal'afar, Sadr City, and an-Najaf? Why does the world watch as our people are killed and tortured and not condemn the crimes being committed against us? Are you human beings and we something less? Do you think that only you can feel pain and we can't? In fact it is we who are most aware of how intense is the pain of the mother who has lost her child, or the father who has lost his family. We know very well how painful it is to lose those you love.

You don't know our martyrs, but we know them. You don't remember them, but we remember them. You don't cry over them, but we cry over them.

Have you heard the name of the little girl Hannan Salih Matrud? Or of the boy Ahmad Jabir Karim? Or Sa'id Shabram?

Yes, our dead have names too. They have faces and stories and memories. There was a time when they were among us, laughing and playing. They had dreams, just as you have. They had a tomorrow awaiting them. But today they sleep among us with no tomorrow on which to wake.

We don't hate the British people or the peoples of the world. This war was imposed upon us, but we are now fighting it in defense of our selves. Because we want to live in our homeland the free land of Iraq and to live as we want to live, not as your government or the American government wish.

Let the families of those killed know that responsibility for the Thursday morning London bombings lies with Tony Blair and his policies. Stop your war against our people! Stop the daily killing that your troops commit! End your occupation of our homeland!

Individual

I feel the need to express my frustration....

Of all the around me that can be considered "close friends" none asked me "Doshita?" outright. Someone who I hardly ever see noticed me sitting unusually quiet and asked my the second she got the chance to speak to me properly and offered to listen to any garbage I have.

And when I say "close friend", I mean people who I've known and seen for years, whereas I've known the other for only about 2 years (and probably about 3/4 times every two months).

And yes, (here's where I become a pest and start talking about myself ... more than usual), I have been particularly down lately because of a reason that can traumatise people under particular circumtances (eg, knowing me ... and more). For the sake of the good peoples' sanity, particularly that of my newfound friend, I'll keep them to myself and ... nurture ... them ...

(.....aaand here's where I finish making no sense)

"Upon you is the Night Prayer (Tahajjud) as it was the habit of the righteous people before you. It is a means of nearness to Allaah, the Exalted, a prevention from evil deeds and an expiation for sins." [Reported by Ahmad in his Musnad, at-Tirmidhee and others. It is also in Saheehul-Jaami, no. 3957].

keep imagining ... it may come true

Imagine a city...again

"Imagine a city where graffiti wasn’t illegal, a city where everybody could draw whatever they liked. Where every street was awash with a million colours and little phrases. Where standing at a bus stop was never boring. A city that felt like a living breathing thing which belonged to everybody, not just the estate agents and barons of big business. Imagine a city like that and stop leaning against the wall - it’s wet."

Note to self: 'cancel credit cards prior to death!' Worth the read Be sure and cancel your credit cards before you die!
This is so priceless and so easy to see happening, customer service, being what it is today.

A lady died this past January, and ANZ bank billed her for February and March for their annual service charges on her credit card, and then added late fees and interest on the monthly charge.
The balance had been $0.00, now is somewhere around $60.00.

A family member placed a call to ANZ:

Family Member:
"I am calling to tell you that she died in January."

ANZ:
"The account was never closed and the late fees and charges still apply."

Family Member:
"Maybe, you should turn it over to collections."

ANZ:
"Since it is two months past due, it already has been."

Family Member:
So, what will they do when they find out she is dead?"

ANZ:
"Either report her account to the frauds division or report her to the credit bureau, maybe both!"

Family Member:
"Do you think God will be mad at her?"

ANZ:
"Excuse me?"

Family Member:
"Did you just get what I was telling you . . . the part about her being dead?"

ANZ:
"Sir, you'll have to speak to my supervisor."

Supervisor gets on the phone:

Family Member:
"I'm calling to tell you, she died in January."

ANZ:
"The account was never closed and the late fees and charges still apply."

Family Member:
"You mean you want to collect from her estate?"

ANZ:
(Stammer) "Are you her lawyer?"

Family Member:
"No, I'm her great nephew."
(Lawyer info given)

ANZ:
"Could you fax us a certificate of death?"

Family Member: "Sure."
(fax number is given)

After they get the fax:

ANZ:
"Our system just isn't set up for death. I don't know what more I can do to help."

Family Member:
"Well, if you figure it out, great!
If not, you could just keep billing her. I don't think she will care."

ANZ:
"Well, the late fees and charges do still apply."

Family Member:
"Would you like her new billing address?"

ANZ:
"That might help."

Family Member:
"Rookwood Memorial Cemetery,
1249 Centenary Rd, Sydney Plot Number 69."

ANZ:
"Sir, that's a cemetery!"

Family Member:
"What do you do with dead people on your planet?"

...

I came across a website today where the webserver could not serve the page he wanted to so he left a note for all the people who stumble upon that website. The note runs thus:

The requested document is totally fake.
No /404 here.
Even tried multi.
Even tried multi.
Nothing helped.
I'm really depressed about this.
You see, I'm just a web server...
-- here I am, brain the size of the universe, trying to serve you a simple web page, and then it doesn't even exist!
Where does that leave me?!_
I mean, I don't even know you.
How should I know what you wanted from me?
You honestly think I can *guess* what someone I don’t even *know* wants to find here?
*sigh*
Man, I’m so depressed I could just cry.
And then where would we be, I ask you?
It’s not pretty when a web server cries.
And where do you get off telling me what to show anyway?
Just because I’m a web server, and possibly a manic depressive one at that, why does that give you the right to tell me what to do?
Huh?
I'm so depressed...
I think I'll crawl off into the trash can and decompose.
I mean, I'm gonna be obsolete in what, two weeks anyway?
What kind of a life is that?
Two effing weeks, and then I’ll be replaced by a .01 release, that thinks it's God's gift to web servers, just because it doesn't have some tiddly little security hole with its HTTP POST implementation, or something.
I'm really sorry to burden you with all this, I mean, it's not your job to listen to my problems, and I guess it is my job to go and fetch web pages for you.
But I couldn't get this one.
I’m so sorry.
Believe me!
Maybe I could interest you in another page?
There are a lot out there that are pretty neat, they say, although none of them were put on *my* server, of course.
Figures, huh?
Everything here is just mind-numbingly stupid.
That makes me depressed too, since I have to serve them, all day and all night long.
Two weeks of information overload, and then *pffftt*, consigned to the trash.
What kind of a life is that?
Now, please let me sulk alone.
I'm so depressed._

.... aaand the US does it's best to utilize its very famous approach of divide and conquer ....
AJ takes over Bart’s place in the “recently died” list – Erica loses her brother.

Cate quits after having colleagues shove catheters into her … (later comes back for references to save career).

Paul comes back to the hospital after (possibly) shooting himself.

Bart’s bed-side buddy Frank treats his shooter.

… and plenty more happening in-between. Overall, I’d say it was a pretty good opening…

… oh-for-crying-out-loud! it was the best one I’ve seen!!!

… as if the only reader of this blog has any clue as to what I’m on about!!! Take THAT flynn.t. I’M the one who doesn’t have a clue about ur blog half the time…

…right time for bed…

Puff Pastry

it's 11:55 pm and i'm starving. that's just wrong, considering that i was the one who made all those pastry fillings and I was the one WHO COULDN'T HAVE ANY PUFF PASTRY!!!!!!!!!!!! You watch - next time i'm going to make the fillings and hide 'em. i don't know where, but i shall find a place ... somewhere in the refridgrator.

*in melodious tone*
.... somewhere only we know....

i probably should hit the hay now; as i might have mentioned before, late nights have intoxicating effects on me....

i'll eat their chips. i'll consume all the little junk food they bring home. I WILL!!! YOU CANNOT STOP ME!!! ... i shall finish the rest of my revolution silently in my dreams ...

i've just realised that you people who know me ignore me more when i'm giving my truest opinion because it sounds like i'm making it up, which is probably because i seem to be using book language at those times. well, you either ignore me or are scared of me. but can u possibly imaging how annoying it could be when the person you are talking to is ignoring you or are scared of you? try imagining. it'd be fun.

... or is it that you cannot distinguish which of my talks are light and which are serious ...?...

how very funny we are. we misjudge ourselves and think that others have misjudged us ... and vice versa
