...'Tis a hot summer's day and I'm gonna go to bed ... and read....

White and Green

YOW, I'm sure you'll be happy to know that I have just finished my first ever kamiz (although ammu did take over thesleeves and part of the neck, which, by the way, was my idea, and turned out pretty darn good). All I have to do now is make a green salwar and get a green chunni and do a bit of needle work on the kamiz

....... Speaking of needle works, M apu, can you give me some of your patterns the next time I see you? ...... Speaking of the next time I see you, I need to return a book at the library, so can you remind me to do that too? ........ Speaking of 'a book' (my my, we're certainly speaking a lot today, arent's we?), I've been reading "The Edgar Allen Poe Bedside Companion". It has all these gruesome, wierd, wacky and wonderful stories, though not all are by Poe. But I'm probably going to end up not finishing this book, like I've been doing most books I've touched lately, including - LOTR, Heathcliff, The Secrets of Jin Shei (or Shey), The Assassins [n.f.] (I'm sure I can find a few more titles if I had bothered, but hey, I need my beauty sleep). It's not like I didn't like those books and vowed never to take them up again. I just can't stay in the mood to read them. But I'm sure I'll finish them someday soon.

Oh dear, forget beauty sleep, I need my health slpee .....

I hope to be back on the morrow to report the latest from animal news .... sadness, griiiiiiiieeeeeef!!!!!...... aaaaah heck, just wait for it.....

Duty calls ... but does not often recall

Going past the varanda (where this humiliating event was taking place), father-dear commented that the cat must have been thinking of suicide that very second. Those of you who do not have mice and a cat living under the same roof will probably have no idea what an entertainment it is to see the cat staring up at the mouse cage every now and then.

The title of this post really relates to jury duty. But I can't be bothered writing about it anymore.

ps. did i spell "তারাতারি" right?

Aishah: A Paragon of Islamic Activism

By Sheikh Ahmad Kutty

‘A’ishah, the mother of the faithful, exemplifies the character of a Muslim nurtured from an early age in a pristine Islamic environment. Having been educated by the best of all teachers, the messenger of Allah, she serves as a role model for the perfection that Muslims can aspire for and attain.

It is actually a multifaceted role that the life of ‘A’ishah provides us with. They range from the private to the public and from the domestic to the scholarly. Among these roles was the ever important one of being a mother of the faithful and as such, she manifested the best of Islamic ideals as outlined in the Qur’an. Generosity, selflessness, honesty and the pursuit of justice and truth were among the ideals more prominent in ‘A’ishah’s character.

As a student, she rose from an intelligent youth, with a critical and probing mind to a highly effective and successful teacher, scholar and jurist, who held firm and bold views in all of the vital areas of Islamic knowledge such as tafsir, hadith, fiqh, Islamic history, nuances of Arabic language, etc. One of her hallmarks was being courageous and forthright in expressing these views. ‘A’ishah’s assertiveness, confidence and outspokenness for standing up for what she believed to be true and right explodes the stereotype prevailing even among Muslims today of the “rightful” role for Muslim women – that of being a silent witness prevented by her femininity from participating in the real live of the community.

Her unparalleled insight into the daily life of the messenger of Allah as well as the independence of her thought and character brought her life into sharp focus from other personalities of the time.

Taste of exam-free days yet to come

Another update

Legally, today was the last day of my exam. But where's the freedom of exam-free days!!! Well, see, I still have a deferred exam to do ... that is, if my lecturer accepts my 'special consideration' form. If she doesn't, well that's another unit added to next year. Drats.

ps. the little ants on my table, coming in and out of my keyboard, are really starting to bug me ....... hehe, ants ... bugging .... haha!!!

...And now for an update ... something about "sock-fluffs"

I come in Peace,

Just to make a little update. A loooooong post is coming up, for my own reading a couple of years later, which none of my viewers need to read.

Anyhow:
Sock Fluff - the new name given to the lint that comes off socks. (a term invented by the boy)

Money money money ... scarier than honey ... actually honey isn't scary at all; very yummy infact...

Salams one and all,

Me scared. Quite scared. Having done a very bad job in the position of Da'wah and Liason assistant, I am freqen scared about being a treasurer at CMS. Yup, that's what I am. A treasurer. HP, HELP!!!!! Mind you, I had to agree to be a treasurer so that it would be a female being Sister's Rep. ... which is Upi!!! yeaaaaaay!!!
Ya Allah, pleeeease help me improve in whatever position I take on as a Muslimah and a representative of Muslims..... *sniff* please make dua for me, y'all.

On a different note ....... HAHAHA!!!! Can't get out of my mind the smile on Sami Yusuf's face in Hasbi Rabbi!!! .... rofl .... Don't get me wrong. I loved the video. But I think they could have done better if they had different Muslims, men and women, in the different scenes/countries, to represent the love and kindness that Muslims all over the world should portray, not just one man doing so all over the world. Although the words and film techniques were quite good. I'm one of those who don't support the use of music, so I didn't really like the bit where Yusuf reads Qur'an and then joins the concert.

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!! Too many distractions!!!! What am I doing on the net!!!! Gotta get back to my diseases!!!!!!!!!!!! ............... Fellow bloggers, please make dua for me that I ... pass my "disease" exam.

Right, if I don't manage to get back to studying within the next 5 min, I'm gonna start ripping my hair off, and ye shall witness A Bald Emu!!!

Unexpected Kindness

This happened sometime at the end of last year or the beginning of this year (not entirely sure):
So there I was just stepped out of the train and walking (very fast) on a hot summer's day (probably summer 'cause I usually don't catch a bus otherwise) towards the bus stop, trying very hard to keep my aabeyya (is that how it's spelt? ... sheeeeesh!! I'm so incompetent at spelling) from flowing all around me. And just as I get within 10meters of the bus, the door slams shut and the bus starts to pull out; ... the driver had not seen me. "Aaaaah, nuts!!", I think to myself, "It's gonna be a looong walk home". Soooooo I make an about-turn and start walking along the road that my bus also takes ... and whaddo ya know! - the huge vehicle makes a stop when it comes beside me and the door opens!!! The drivers asks me if I wanted to catch this bus.
How very nice of him! Most of the bus drivers of my uni wouldn't do that. In fact, I heard of an account of the total opposite of this kindness. A friend was telling me that the bus driver shut the door in her face! But then there are the jolly fellows who always smile (either that or they just have a smiling face) and are always nice to you. Good on them.

Now onto other news under the headline of "It's good to see that the efforts of most of the psychologists in Bangladesh are not going to waste."
Beloved mother and I went for dawat to a neighbour's house a few days ago, who at that time had probably planned to watch some "Eid special" natoks airing on a Bangladeshi channel. The natok hadn't started yet and there were some 15-20 ads playing. They are soooooo funny!!! (Pecularly and pathetically funny, not haha funny). I don't suppose Bangladesh has many, if any, psychologists working for ad companies, which is a relief 'cause so many talents and professions in Bangladesh already either go to waste, or out of the country. The ads don't seem to apply much more of conditioned learning knowledge apart from chucking in some songs and music. And, sheeesh, they use those a lot; there is not one ad without them!!!
Let me give you an example - Soyabean oil ad; husband comes home, and husband and wife have a very sing-song-y conversation:
Husband: এই, খানাপিনা কই?
Wife: এই, সয়াবিন তেল কই? (in a very ঢঙি way)
Husband: ও, ভুলে গেছি। নিয়ে আসি। (or something like that)
They they're seen eating and singing (literally) praises of how healthy and tasty their brand of "Soyabean tel" is. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be convinced into buying that from watching that ad.

To Him we come from, to Him we belong, and to Him is our return for He is the holder of our souls, our Creator, Most merciful.

.

"ইমা শোনো, তোমার দাদু ... আর নেই।"

মৃত্তু সংবাদ কিভাবে দিতে হয় আমার জানা নেই।

Please make dua' for him.

One question has been playing over and over again in my mind - "Can a person be anymore helpless than after his death?"

Ammu called my chachi's house and chachi told us about dadu before he passed away. At the time my choto chachu and boro fupi were with him. SubhanAllah, he was saying salams to no one visible. And he said once "Wait, let me just say some things to my sons".

I've heard somewhere that you can't say that a person is good until he has passed away. I think I can safely say that my dadu was a very good person. Afflicted with aplastic anaemia (anaemia doesn't sound serious, but in Bd, because of the lack of its proper treatment, aplastic anaemia can be serious), he suffered before he died. I pray to Allah that he wiped away some of his sins from that suffering.

I'm afraid that a few weeks/months later ammu or abbu will come and say the same thing about my dadumoni. Allah please let me see her before u take her.

Hardening of the Heart

Salams one and all who may have gotten curious about this new blogger,

I received this little peice in email a few years back from the "brothermalcolmx" yahoo group. The very first time I read it, I don't recall that I lost my focus on the article even once, which is extremely surprising for me. Back then, I was very moved by it because I realised that I have a bad habit of all three things mentioned in the article. And today, standing at a much lower ground in relation to those three points, (and I'm ashamed to say this) I ammuch less moved by it. Oh Allah, please guide me and shower me with Your Mercy and Patience.

Well, here it is, and I hope you benefit from it as much as possible...

Imam Ibn Al Qayyim - rahimahaullah - said:

The slave is not afflicted with a punishment greater than the hardening of the heart and being distant from Allah. For the Fire was created to melt the hardened heart. The most distant heart from Allah is the heart which is hardened. If the heart becomes hardened, the eye becomes dry.

They (the transgressors) preoccupied their hearts [in the pursuance] of the Dunya, would that they preoccupied them with Allah and the Hereafter, then surely they would have reflected upon the intended meaning of His poignant Words and Verses. Their hearts would have returned to their masters with a wisdom, marvelously curious and [in possession] of the rarest of precious gems.

If the heart is nourished with remembrance, its thirst quenched with contemplation and cleansed from corruption, it shall witness remarkable and wondrous matters, inspiring wisdom.

Not every individual is endowed with knowledge and wisdom, and assumes its character is from amongst its people. Rather the People of Knowledge and Wisdom are those who infused life into their hearts by slaying their desires. As for the one who slayed his heart and vitalized his desires, then knowledge and wisdom is naked upon his tongue.

The destruction of the heart occurs by security [in this Dunya] and negligence, its fortification occurs by fear and remembrance. If the heart renounces the pleasures of the Dunya, it settles upon the [pursuance] of the pleasures of the Hereafter, and amongst those who call towards it. Should the heart become content with the pleasures of the Dunya, those pleasures [of the Hereafter] cease [to continue].

Yearning for Allah and His meeting is like the gentle breeze blowing upon the heart, extinguishing the blaze of the Dunya. Whosoever caused his heart to settle with his Lord shall be in a state, calm and tranquil, and whosoever sent it amongst the people shall be disturbed and excessively perturbed.

Hence, the most beloved servant before Allah is the one whom He places in His servitude, whom He selects for His love, whom He causes to purify his worship for Him, dedicates his objectives for Him, his tongue for His remembrance, and his limbs for His service.

The heart becomes sick, as the body becomes sick, and its remedy is al-Tawbah and protection [from transgression]. It becomes rusty as a mirror becomes rusty, and its clarity is obtained by remembrance. It becomes naked as the body becomes naked, and its beautification is al- Taqwa. It becomes hungry and thirsty as the body becomes hungry, and its food and drink is knowledge, love, dependence, repentance and servitude.

Suggestions

Salams all,

I'm in need of suggestions. I have absolutely no idea about what to get for a 19-yr-old dude (ie. the Boy). So if any of you have any suggestions, please tell me. But make sure it's something around $20 (I'm not very rich).

Ok, I will go now; for if I do not go away, the comforting food will not come to me.

Crying at night... A believer between fear, love, longing, and hope

Source: Sunnipath.com

Q: The issue is that I cry a lot in the evening, especially lying in my bed and at Isha time, when I think about my sins and about my grave and my reckoning with Allah. I get very depressed and feel that the only place for me is Hell, the Fire.

A:
1 . Crying: It is of the great works of the heart to weep in reverence, fear, longing, and love for Allah.

The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “There are two eyes that the Fire will not touch: eyes that wept in fear of Allah, and eyes that stayed up guarding in the way of Allah.” [Tirmidhi]

And he also mentioned (peace and blessings be upon him) seven people whom Allah will shade in His shade, on a Day when there is no other shade, and included among them, “...and a person who remembered Allah when alone until their eyes flowed with tears.” [Bukhari and Muslim]

2. We don’t just fear Allah: we have love, longing, hope, and joy in Him too…

Allah has blessed us with the straight and upright path of Islam, which is essentially balanced and moderate in its outlook. Part of this balance is that a Muslim does not only fear Allah: we also have great hope in Allah, for Allah is the Merciful, Compassionate, and Loving.

His Beloved Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) told us that when Allah ordained creation, He wrote on His Throne, “Verily, My Mercy outstrips my Wrath.” [Bukhari and Muslim]

Allah tells us in the Qur’an, Al Baqara:186 : “And when My servants question You concerning Me, then surely I am near. I answer the prayer of the suppliant when they cry unto Me. So let them hear My call and let them trust in Me, in order that they may be led aright.”

And He tells us the way, Al Baqara:152-153 : “Therefore remember Me, I will remember you. Give thanks to Me, and reject Me not. O you who believe! Seek help in steadfastness and prayer. Lo! Allah is with the steadfast.”

We all have shortcomings. Allah has called us to turn to Him, Al Baqara:222 : “Truly Allah loves those who turn unto Him, and loves those who purify themselves.”

The way to this is repentance, and turning towards Allah in obedience and love. For every step you take towards Allah, Allah draws closer to you beyond imagination.

The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said that Allah Most High said, “I am as My servants think of Me, and I am with them when they make remembrance of Me. So if they remember Me to themselves, I remember them to Myself. And if they remember me in a gathering, I remember them in a gathering better than theirs. If they draw closer to Me by a handspan, I draw closer to them by an arm’s length. And if they draw closer to Me by an arm’s length, I draw closer to them by two arm’s lengths. If they come walking to Me, I hasted to them.” [Bukhari and Muslim]

The scholars explain that the servant’s drawing close is by seeking to follow the Beloved Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) by performing good works, obligatory and voluntary, and seeking high inward states (such as reverence, love, and thankfulness), and Allah’s drawing close is through giving reward, spiritual illumination, and enveloping them in His Mercy and Love.

Thus, when we realize our shortcomings, we weep over them, repent to Allah, but move forward, for our reliance and hope is not in our works but in the Mercy and Concern of Allah for us. A Muslim is thus an optimist, because while recognizing our shortcomings, faults, and errors, we also realize that Allah gives: our duty is simply to ask and then take the right means.

And Allah has told us, Al Ankabut:69 : “As for those who strive in Us, We surely guide them to Our paths, and lo! Allah is with the good.”

And Allah alone gives success.

Wassalam.Faraz Rabbani.

My hands smell like a chemical experiment

Salams,

I’ve just been doing some hand wash laundry with bare hands using a whole lot of bleach (call me stupid but I hate the feel of rubber gloves). Afterwards, of course, my hands were very slippery from the bleach and they stunk of bleach. So to neutralise the bleachy feel and stench, I rubbed a bit of vinegar on my hands (hail chemistry). And the result – my hands smell like my veranda did when we did that year 12 experiment with al those funky acids, bases and indicators.

Hmmm, at least there’s an upside to it … now the ugly henna design on my hands might rub off before it takes to its full colour…woohoo!!!

(*sniff* ... oooh, stinky!!!!)

Welcome o Ramadhan

Assalamu alaikum sisters (...and brothers who might ponder by...),

"Oh you who believe, fasting has been prescribed for you, as it was prescribed to those before you, so that you may attain Taqwa." (Al-Baqara:183)

"Call upon me. I will answer" (Al-Mu'min:60)

Welcome o Ramadhan! You are honoured, oh Month of the Quran. It is Ramadhan.

It's 7:48 in the morning and I just woke up after a call from dear Hablu from Habluland - Thanks Hablu, otherwise I would have missed every train and ended up not going to uni ... Speaking of which: we're having IAW at our campus this week girls. You're all welcome to come ... in fact, I would like it very much if you did. Just get out of the station through the left stairs down and catch a $.80 ride to Sydney Uni (make sure that it's labelled "University of Sydney/Lidcomb Tafe"). Comes every 15 minutes.

I have just cancelled the thought of putting up my Ramadhan Resolution for reasons not clear to me even. But, I do have a list, and I ask for everyone reading this to make dua' for me that I hold firm to them and continue even after the end of Ramadhan; you all have my dua', too.

I'd love to stay and tell y'all the long list of things I have to do today, BUT one of my resolutions is "NO unnecessary blogging", ... and that would fall under the category.

Have a good and sucessful Ramadhan everyone and with the will and help of Allah attain Taqwa.

Ma'assalama

a li'l warning...

A little warning and advice to y'all...

NEVER - I REPEAT - NEVER go bike-riding one 'fine' morning and ice-skating the next day. You may regret it for days to come. At the moment, I literally have to lift up my leg if I need to raise my thigh above 15 degrees upwards.

Nonetheless, I'm glad to have come back home without my coccyges in excruciating pain, such as they were after my first ice-skating experience, which may have caused the commuted fractures of my femur and sacral bones..... the exact words of that threat being - "[Behind] bhenge ashle ami kintu tor duita pa bhenge dibo", followed by "Ar ami bhangbo komor". Thanks to Abbu/Ammu's threats, I am skeleton-wise intact, though same cannot be said of my (femural...?) muscles.

Ok, I don't care how much sense that made to my readers, I just wanna use some medical terminology to get myself better acquainted with them, for I am currently struggling with them very much.

Now on a different matter...
It's past 1:30am and I'm afraid to go to sleep, lest I die when I do, even though I know that whether I sleep or not, I WILL die when the time comes. "And why are you so afraid that you mention this publicaly?" - I hear you ask. Well, because I never confide in anyone (even myself, mind you), and thought that I might as well confide in everyone ... in a way, and to some extent. "And why now?" Well, because I've been living a pretty much void existance during the last ..... dear-o-dear, it's been a while,.... a loooong while.

Anyhow, like I said, it's past 1:30, so I'm not exactly thinking straight. I can see people coming on- and going off-line constantly (overseas people). I myself am getting disconnected and connecting every now and then ... as usual. Catherine Zeta Jones is still on!!! Wonder what she's doing at this ungodly time!!! Studying, I suppose. Speaking of which, I better do some myself. The horrid med sc will be the death of me. Our lecturer wants to start tute for it from next week!!! A fat lot of good that's gonna do after 7 weeks of more-or-less good-for-nothing-but-sleeping lectures... *grumble, grumble, grumble*.

Les Miserables

Ooops ... I meant to say the following ...

Castle On A Cloud

There is a castle on a cloud,
I like to go there in my sleep,
Aren't any floors for me to sweep,
Not in my castle on a cloud.

There is a room that's full of toys,
There are a hundred boys and girls,
Nobody shouts or talks too loud,
Not in my castle on a cloud.

There is a lady all in white,
Holds me and sings a lullaby,
She's nice to see and she's soft to touch,
She says "Cosette, I love you very much."

I know a place where no one's lost,
I know a place where no one cries,
Crying at all is not allowed,
Not in my castle on a cloud.

Thursday, September 1, 2005

The phone starts ringing and vibrating to the tune of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". 'She' picks it up and takes the call; - it's an expected call from 'He', The Boy.

"Hello, Assalamu alaikum," 'she' says to 'he'.
From the other side of the wonderful invention of communication comes a sound of a whole lot of people bustling around the caller. Drowning the noise comes the reply,
"Wa alaikum assalam" ... pause ... "...uuuhm, amar ajke ashte deri hobe."
"Koytay ashba?"
"Atta-noytay."
"Tumi kothay?"
"Why don't you take a guess?", a cheeky reply expecting a known, and obvious, answer.
"Library," - the reply is ho hum, not catching the cheekiness in 'he's' question.
"Congratulations! You got it!"
And the cheekiness becomes obvious. 'She' asks with a smile,
"Which library?"
"I'll give you another guess," - the equal level smile is obvious in 'he's' words.
"Oh! lemme guess ... uni!"
"Oh, you're on fire today, aren't you?! What next?"
The words exchange end here with "Allah Hafez" and "Khoda Hafez" being said at the same time.

... and so does my post.

Note: In case you can't tell, 'she' and 'he' are sister-brother of 'twinzy' relation.

...

It has been said that "When you’re in a jam, good friends will bring you bread with peanut butter on it"

... Well, where's my bread with peanut butter??? Forget the peanut butter - never did like them much - just bring the bread, will ya?! I DEMAND TO KNOW WHERE MY BREAD IS!!!

... Hang on ... you don't even know which jar I have, do you?...

... Aaaawww, forgetit ...

... I resign ...

Talking is sharing; Listening is caring...

... A profound, yet rather confusing a philosophy, don't you think? Especially if you think along the lines of the "Sharing is caring" philisophy.... But, then again, I'm not the best of judges...

an update, but as boring as my life gets...

Dear weblog,
There's nothing much to report, really. I'm still in the same dazed mood I have been for the last 2/3 God-forsaken weeks. Well, something did happen a little out of my rather monotonous day to intensify my mood.... - I made 8 small braids on my hair today to get a ... what - permed(?) ... look, but ended up getting a horrifyingly bushy hair, enough to induce a comment from my oh-so-beloved sister - "Haha, look at the Fuzz-ball".
Well, that's enough for now. I shall return to you, dear blog, after I have come out of my 'dazed' mood.
Till then, so long....

I end my pointless post hither.

Have a laugh

Haha, the shenanigens of our dear, beloved Amtia (ie. the neighbourhood cutie)
  • She happened to have a piece of tissue in her hand today that she was putting in her mouth (the girl seems to like the taste). She was asked by my sis, "Amrita, tumi tissue khachcho?" "Hmm" "Amrita, tumi tissue khachcho keno?" "Because I have nothing else to eat"!!! The girl is only about to become 3 in a couple of months.
  • For around 10 minutes she was singing God-knows-what and dancing along, non-stop. If only we had a camera to record it.... but i did manage to record it audio. If anyone's interested, remind me to play it next time you come over to my house.
  • I'm always reminding her to call my mum Aunty-mama. Despite that, this is what the cheeky thing says... She called ammu 'aunty' and ammu asked her why doesn't she say aunty-mama. And Amtia replies, "Because Ema didi said"!!! Happy to blame it on anyone but herself!!!

Anyways [4], it's very late, and I have a morning to catch upto.
So cheerio,
Ma'assalaama

update required

I think it's probably time for me to give an update on my shenanigens. I have waaaaaaaaaaaay too much time on my hands and I'm not using it properly.... Yikes, now that I've written that it seems to sink in even more...

Ok, a few things to look forward to:
- YOW's arrival (hopefully);
- a visit to a friend's uni and spend a day with her; it's going to be a lot of travel, but hey, I REALLY need a break;
- start reading "Heathfliff: The return to Wuthering Heights" (I think I might have forgetten to mention YOW that I've finally gotten a hold of it from our local lib);
- get advice on how I can get myself out of a mess that I've been dragged into;
- figure out how to how to thin down my feline friend without having her hanging around all day for food;
- remind myself that my uni starts in less than two weeks, so COME OUT OF THE HOLIDAY MOOD!!!!!!
- add more links on my blog;
- and not last and certainly not least - destruction and reconstruction

hrmm, the list kind of goes on, but I'm really not in the mood to write them now [read: I'm never going to end up writing them even if I wanted to].

Oh, just remembered! There was a girl in Bevo Girls' who left school in year 10. Do you remember Kylie, Ishita? That's the girl I'm talking about. From what I know from other people, she used to be a VERY naughty girl. I had her in my PE class in year 10 and she told me that she used to smoke around 3 packs of cigerettes before. Anyways [1], personally she seemed to be a very nice person, but apparantly she had a very bad temper and if she didn't like you, she could be very mean to you. Well, that was the overall impression I got of her. So, why am I writing all this? Simple, she reverted, Alhamdulillah. I'm still having trouble swallowing that piece of fact. Now she wears proper Hijab. I'm trying to get her number so I can contact her. Make dua for me ppl so that I can get her number.

That's the second person that became Muslim in our school. Makes me appreciate the environment of our school even more.

Anyways [2], I should run along now. It's getting quite late, added to the fear of having raster burns, I should shut off the computer now and get to bed.

Oh how I curse thee,
Damned wireless technology!!!
Does this sound familiar, Fish and Fishy?

Anyways [3], Salams everyone. "Till we meet again"...

Felling BRONTE-ied!!!

'Twas grief enough to think mankind
All hollow, servile, insincere,
But worse to trust to my own mind,
And find the same corruption there."

- Emily Jane Bronte

"I'll walk where my own nature would be leading
It vexes me to choose another guide.
Where the gray flocks in ferny glens are feeding
Where the wild wind blows on the montain side.

What have those lonely mountains worth revealing?
More glory and more grief than I can tell;
The earth that wakes one human heart to feeling;
Can center both the worlds Heaven and Hell."

Earth yields no scent as those;
But he who dares not grasp the thorn,
Must never crave the rose."

A WHAT??!!...Surely not!!!!

Ottava rima? Me? That can't be right!
Too frivolous? But tut, there's no such thing!
Let others ponder thoughts of wrong and right,
Or sit and think how much they love the spring;
I'd rather spend my time in gleeful spite,
Or maybe laugh, or maybe sit and sing.
Besides, it might be fun to be inspiring -
But surely it would get so very tiring.

Somewhere Only We Know

Year 12;
trying to do a few maths questions;
listening to radio (don't remember what station) in the background;
up pops a song - "Somewhere Only We Know" by Kaene;
loved it as soon as I heard the first 3/4 lines;
went online and found the lyrics And I should like to share the lyrics with you all;
I'm in there somewhere:-

Somewhere Only We Know
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete
Oh simple thing where have you gone
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin

I came across a fallen tree
I felt the branches of it looking at me
Is this the place we used to love?
Is this the place that I've been dreaming of?
Oh simple thing where have you gone
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin

And if you have a minute why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go
Somewhere only we know?

Oh simple thing where have you gone
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin

And if you have a minute why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go
So why don't we go

This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go
Somewhere only we know?

For this lonely Emu, no one else knows where that "Somewhere" is...

i'm back ... once more ... maybe i shud keep count of how many times i come back

Salamu alaikum sisters,
once again i'm back. and before i apologise for neglecting my blog, have a laugh. i found a few 'Muslim pickup lines' in a friend's blog. some of them made sense, some of them didn't, a few were lame, a couple were funny ... take a look....

1. What school of thought do you follow, because I thought about you all through school - (i thought this one was the funniest ... i don't know why)

2. Can I have your Wali's phone number?

3. Is your dad a terrorist, 'cuz you da bomb!

4. I'd like to be more than just your brother in Islam.

5. Will you help the cause of the Ummah by helping me fulfill my deen?

There were about 20 of them, but most of them were rather ... uncooth (fooof!!... big word coming from an Emu) ... so i didn't write them.

Anyways, must run along and chase my imaginary problems away. Wish me luck cos it ain't gonna be easy for me.

Take care all
Wassalam

(Note to self {intended for another self}: WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO GET U TO TALK TO ME????!!!!)

PS. Leave me alone

PPS. YAAAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH .... IT STRIKES AGAIN!!!!

PPPS. "It's a jungle out there"..... and in here as well.....

PPPPS. I'm sorry, my poor inflated (from sickness, NOT ego ... not this time), sick, bubble-head can't take it anymore. I'M NOT BREATHING THROUGH MY NOSE!!! AND IT'S HORRIBLY FRUSTRATING!!! ALL THIS RHINORRHOEA (correct me if the spelling is wrong), ANOSMIA, DYSPHONIA AND DYSPNOEA IS KILLING ME!!! I HAVE A YELLOW TONGUE FROM SUCKING ALL THOSE HUNEY ND LEMON SOOTHERS!!! (Right, who else is getting sick of my shouting?)
Well, last night i went to bed at around 11 and stayed awake till about 1. After that i happened to fall asleep, only to wake up about 20-30 minutes later from SOB (ie. shortness of breath, i was not crying, though i had good reason to do so). And so began my 30 + minutes of full of coughing and practically spitting out my lungs and sucking on 2-3 Soothers lozenges and dying my tongue yellow.
Dear readers, I will believe if u tell me that 'Yes, being sick is hard', but I will not believe if u tell me that u know what I'm going thru. Ask the girl next door. She has seen only half of what i went through last night. My poor mother; I thank Allah that He gave her whatever little amount of sleep He did. I, for one, cud probably never go to sleep while someone coughs away right next to me like a factory sewing machine ( i'm not in the mood to think of a better comparison).

Anyways, I shall end here with my one night's misery. And btw, all those big words came from my Clinical Terminology book. I shall treasure that book while I trash all others that I may not need at the end of the year. It makes me feel that I'll be able to understand what a couple of health professionals might b talking about, though that's not necessarily true ...... did that make sense? I am very confused....

As i hope to publish this post, I shall write no more, for my rebellious eyes are shutting and once they shut, they refuse to open at my command.

Ma'assalaama

This is the end ... almost

SALAMS ALL,

NO, THE CAPS LOCK ISN'T ACCIDENTLY ON. I'M JUST HAPPY THAT 3 OUT OF 4 E***S R OVER. PRETTY SOON (well, its really one wk) I SHALL B FEELING ON TOP OF THE SUN!!! ... FINISHED THE HSC AGAIN (except this time i left the studying to the last nanosecond)!!! ... LIKE I'LL NEVER HAVE ANOTHER E**M AGAIN!!! ... TO TOP IT WITH CREAM AND A GLAZED CHERRY, MY NEXT SEMESTER'S TIMETABLE IS PRETTY EMPTY, ONLY 9 HOURS A WK!!! ... WITH MON- AND WEDNES-DAYS OFF!!! IF I COULD GET ANY MORE CAPS LOCK-ER THAN THIS, I WOULD!

But every action has an opposite and equal reaction... While the holidays may mean more time to 'blog', i think i'm going to be less (read: MUCH less) frequent with keeping up with my own blog. i have found two other objects to occupy myself with: 1) practice my left hand writting, which has been my long term dream to be able to do; and 2) do a little 'cf3'ing. (i'm hoping some spider caught in this world wide web, not to mention spinning a portion of it, would know what cf3 is). btw, YOW, before u tell me off, i'll b visiting and commenting more frequently on the microcosm.

All-righty-then. i shall be leaving now. b4 i do so, may i mention to peachy and fish that my invitation to them to my university holds until they come.

with this, i end.

good bye, farewell, (and i forgot the rest of the line)

Light Up!!!

My lighter seems to have a personality of its own. (No, i do not smoke, nor am i a pyromaniac [is that how it's spelt]). It likes to tease its beholder, lighting up when it wants and dimming down when it wants. It's not the gas, I asure u. It's got plenty of gas in it.

Bad lighter. BAAAD lighter...

(Afraid to Read)

I sent an email to my loved one just the other day
It’s sad communication has evolved this way
We use so many words but have so little to relate
As angels scribble down every letter that we say

All the viral attachments sent
The passionate insults we vent
It’s easy to be arrogant
Behind user password we invent
But on the day the scrolls are laid
With every word and deed displayed
When we read our accounts
I know, for one, I’ll be afraid

That day I’ll be so afraid to read
Every harsh word I have spoken, every time that I have lied
I’ll be obliged to admit, I’ll be obliged to submit
Will I have strength owning up to each deed I’ve tried to hide

Allah I’m so afraid to read.

apologies, apologies

Salams, my readers,

my heartiest apologies for my neglect of my own blog for the last ... can't remember how long ... i have been way too panicky regarding my "other" commitments. my further apologies go for the same reason for i will not be 'bloggin'' for the next month or so, or if i do, it will not be very frequent.

and of course, my special apologies go to flynn, who seems to be the main/only reader/commenter of my 'shenanigins (is that how it's spelt)'. and btw, i am very much intrigued to know what you meant by your last comment. i could make no head nor tail of that comment. enlighten me.

...INSPIRATION!!!...

Aha, I’ve got it!!!

Well, “gather round and I’ll tell u a tale” as they say :

Waiting for the train at I’burn station, I happened to meet a bangali lady. We happened to be going the same way and it was her who told me this story:
Two bangali ladies, working at the Immigration Centre got onto a lift. There was an Australian lady already in it. The two bangali ladies straight away started talking about her….they were complementing her appearance, but using somewhat misogynistic words to describe her…. No expression from the Aussie lady, naturally….yet… When the lift comes to her stop, she turns around with a smile and says: “You said so many good things about me, I just really don’t understand why u used such bad words.”

It turned out that she had worked in bd for a few years as a humanitarian agent and happened to pick up the language there.
Well, now there’s something that doesn’t happen everyday.

Anyways, my readers will probably see plenty more of these little “lol’s” for the next few wks … to say the least…

ps:. do not trust blog time ...

check it hooout...

check this out ppls... found it in RD Nov. 2004...
